Taste of Italy 2008
On Friday, April 25, 2008, 160 Girl Scout supporters travelled to the city known as the birthplace of the Italian Renaissance, Florence, Italy, as we celebrated our fifth A Taste of Italy Italian gourmet dinning experience. A Taste of Italy features a seven-course menu prepared by chefs at Banchetti by Rizzo’s, paried with a variety of select regional wines with each course. A sampling of the food our guests enjoyed included Italian Antipasto , Seafood Ravioli, Veal Saltimboca Rollatini and Bistecca Rosamaria, Butternut Squash Risotto. To top off the dinner, dessert included home-made Biscotti and Tiramisu Cheesecake created exclusively for A Taste of Italy by Culinary Art’s Specialties.
Jacquie Walker, anchor for channel 4 News, acted as our mistress of ceremonies for the evening. She entertained the attendees with stories of her days in Girl Scouts and explained why still today she believes in and supports the mission of Girl Scouting. |

For fun, our guests enjoyed bidding on a variety of silent auction items and some beautifully arranged baskets. But the real fun was had during our spirited Live Auction. Eric Monahan of Cash Realty & Auctions added his auctioneering expertise, as he worked hard to get everyone in the room interested in bidding on our fabulous Live Auction items.
A total of $31,000 was raised to support the quality, girl-relevant programs and adult leadership training that benefit over 14,000 girl and adult members. This year's event brings our five year grand total to over $118,000. Thank you to the guests, event sponsors and all of the businesses that donate product or purchase advertisement in our program book. The success of this event could not happen without a community of people coming together in support of this important cause. This support enables the Girl Scout Council of Buffalo & Erie County to continue to mentor today’s girls in a way that builds girls of courage, confidence and character…exceptional traits for the business and community leaders of tomorrow.
