Cookie Program

Girl Scout Cookie® Program

The Girl Scout Cookie® Program benefits girls by helping them to:

  • Learn the importance of goal setting and implementing plans to achieve a goal;
  • Develop interpersonal and teamwork skills;
  • Develop self-confidence, self-reliance and a healthy sense of pride that comes with personal achievement;
  • Practice the ethical standards set forth in the Girl Scout Promise and Law;
  • Learn basic business practices, including money management and customer service as they develop entrepreneurial skills and career readiness;
  • Understand that their participation benefits the entire Council.

Another benefit of the program lies in its ability – with the assistance of thousands of supportive volunteers and parents – to teach girls the importance of economic independence at an early age. It is also a time when girls can have fun together and make new friends.

Cookie customers often wonder how the profits are spent. The cookie package graphic  illustrates how that revenue is distributed. The Girl Scout Cookie® Program provides girls and young women with invaluable experience developing good money-management and people skills. They enjoy “running a business” and understand the importance of being accountable for money entrusted to them … even for short periods of time. Girls learn to keep accurate records, e.g., taking cookie orders, submitting order forms, and distributing product to customers. They also learn that good customer service is the key to repeat business.
