Pay It Forward Mini-Grants - Three funding cycles in 2008!
Deadline October 15
Applications for the first round of Pay it Forward Mini-Grants are currently being accepted. The Pay It Forward Foundation provides these mini-grants to support one-time-only service-oriented projects identified by youth. In order to be considered, applicants must demonstrate that their projects contain a "pay it forward" focus, based on the concept of one person doing a favor for others, who in turn do favors for others, with the results growing exponentially. Mini-grants of up to $500 will be awarded.

2008 National Young Women of Distinction Call for Applications
Deadline May 15, 2008
It is that time of year again—time to recognize exceptional young women who have earned the highest award in Girl Scouting, the Girl Scout Gold Award. This year, 10 Young Women of Distinction will be honored at a special awards ceremony in Indianapolis, Indiana, on October 30-November 2, 2008.

Applications are now being accepted from any Girl Scout who has received her Girl Scout Gold Award between October 1, 2006 and April 30, 2008. Girls who wish to apply or nominate someone for this special honor are encouraged to download an application at
http://www.girlscouts.org/news/whats_new/young_women_distinction_2008.asp. Please note that the application must be completed and submitted to their councils NO LATER THAN May 15, 2008. There is no limit on the number of applications a council or Overseas Committee can submit to GSUSA. Applications from councils or Overseas Committees must be postmarked no later than June 30, 2008, and received by GSUSA no later than July 7, 2008. Applications received after the due date will not be considered.

The projects will be evaluated on 3 key areas: how the project reflects the passion the Girl Scout has for the cause and how she has used her leadership skills to take action; how the project affects the world around her; and how the project addresses the three Girl Scout keys to leadership: Discover, Connect and Take Action. The winners will be announced by the Girl Scouts of the USA on August 29, 2008.

Let’s do our part in recognizing the fine young women in Girl Scouting, nominate a Gold Award recipient today. If you have any questions or concerns about the National Young Women of Distinction event, please e-mail
